UK Gym Pits were contacted by Gymfinity International after being recommended by a mutual colleague. The club were looking at moving into larger more purposeful premises and were debating the possibilities of incorporating a raised pit podium into the overall floor layout. We started working together and within a few months the club had found a suitable premises in their home town of Kaiserslautern, Germany.
Many ideas and designs later we came up with a layout that suited the clubs needs which didn't compromise the floor equipment or any safety issues relating to fire escapes or access within the building. The design was unique in the way it required several different heights, a variety of loose foam and resi-foam pits and recesses for equipment. Once the customer was happy with the layout, we started the process of designing the structural elements of the raised podium and started to discuss the manufacturing, shipping and installations requirements.
UK Gym Pits started the manufacturing process with the raised podium being the first part of the schedule. Once we had produced all the timber framework and sheet materials (all cut to size to ease installation) we organised shipping them out to Germany via articulated lorries so the club could start the installation with the aid of pre-prepared design and installation drawings. Whilst we were in the manufacturing stage of the raised podium, we ordered all the foam for the pit bases, lose foam logs, pit padding, wall padding, bespoke landing mats, resi-foam landing pits etc. and this arrived as the first lorries left.
The pit base foam was cut to size, the loose foam logs were produced, pit and wall padding manufactured and the resi-foam landing pits and bespoke landing mats were put together and packaged ready for transportation. As well as all the foam, the customer requested they use our GRP safety handrail system so this was packaged and sent out. Like the design and installation drawings we'd pre-prepared another set to help with the installation of the all the foam, padding and GRP safety handrail system so the customer would be able to understand the installation process and techniques easier.
All the above was carried out during the pandemic which made things even more challenging. Although we never visited the client, the premises or took part in the installation between ourselves and the customer we were able to complete this via zoom meetings, emails and telephone calls. Credit to the customer and their team of helpers being able to perform such a task, the pictures show the raised podium in place with the pit/wall padding, GRP safety handrail system and all the pit foam and resi-foam landing pits.
